    Our Business Story – WonderLand,

    as of December, 2013

    Our Protagonists

They fit into two main Audiences – the Arm-chair Travellers and the Doers. There is a third group, the In-betweeners, which, as the name implies, live somewhere between the two main Audiences.

    All our Peeps are:

    Curious
    Educated (formal or Life U.)
Intelligent (may or may not be in the sense of book smarts)
    Open-minded
Willing & eager to learn, to experience, to grow
Looking for the Voice of Reason, not the YesPeep who tells you what you want to hear, not what you need to hear.
Willing to get off their butts and Do Something, whether it’s read or watch something or add to their collection in the case of an Armchair Traveller or learn how to use chi-type energy in the case of an In-betweener or a Do-er.

They mostly differ in the amount of Action they are willing to take.

    The Arm-chair Travellers

The Arm-chair Travellers are, by definition, more passive, choosing to consume our content more than interact with it.

They may be of any age, tho’ are more likely to be middle-aged or older as a group than the Doers. They are certainly more settled in life.

To quote our most famous Armchair Traveller (to date), or to at least paraphrase her: “I’m set. I don’t see any need to go any further.”

They ARE curious. They are intelligent and educated, whether in formal schooling or simply the School of Life.

While they don’t feel they need or desire more for themselves, they do wonder about what’s out there.

The Broad Groups of Descendents of the Armchair Travellers

    Art-lovers
    Card-deck Collectors
Readers of stories from our Journey
    Readers of our fiction
    Readers of our Inspiration
    Swag-lover

Specific Couple: Arnold & Adele Arm-chair Traveller

    Backstory & Defining Moments

These two are a curious couple. No, really, they are curious. From the day they were born, until (they hope!) the day they die, they are constantly learning about this bright, beautiful world we live in.

They watch PBS, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, and documentaries hither and thither. They check out YouTube a lot and adore that docco-site that has all these kyool documentaries for free (and legally, miraculously!).

And yeah, that’s habitat, but it’s also backstory.

Perhaps incongruously, they lead and led fairly normal lives outside of that. They had their corporate-jobs, at whatever level fit their personalities. They went on vacations, but never anywhere nearly as exciting as the places they’d watch.

And they saw and see nothing wrong with that. They enjoy their comforts, and travelling outside their comfort zones, either literally or physically interferes with that. (Bilbo Baggins is suddenly coming to mind. Goodness knows, he would have PREFERRED to remain an Armchair Traveller, if he hadn’t suddenly been descended-upon by a passel o’ dwarves an an Angel of Possibly Dubious Sanity.)

I keep seeing Adele & Arnold as retired, tho’ that’s not really true. They ARE, however, extremely settled. They’re okay with their life as it is right now.

Current Motivaytions – very few, actually.

Consequences around not achieving their desires (their Big Fears) “We are bored.”

Values – Solid citizens. Past that, most of this is none of our biz. (Although, I am becoming highly impatient with those who refuse to Acknowledge the Other in any sense other than human.)

What They Value from Us & Our Offerings

Is and entirely different Question and one I can answer and have done.

So the Arm-chair Traveller will value our story-telling – both for honesty in our non-fiction and realism in our fiction – and for the Questions and Answers that both raise.

They will value our willingness to go out the3re, explore, and bring the stories and experiences back to them. Again that rabbit being drug back between the forelegs to share with the rest of the pack.

They will value our good quality decks – decks they cannot find anywhere else.

They will value our willingness to be on Stage and allow them to be in the Audience. We will allow them to participate just as much as they desire and that will be pleasant for and pleasing to, them.

Worldview – Somewhat aware of the world around them, more-so than many, less-so than the people that go there in person. Especially if they’re coming around our neck of the woods, they’re interested in the paranormal and in exploring those edges, albeit from home, both literally and figuratively.

    Habitat

Online a lot. Pinterest. Facebook. The Docco-site. YouTube.

Offline, they are often found at their local library, checking out the latest in travel books, videos, etc., as well as the other edges they are interested in at the mo’.

They do enjoy reading. I see them as a bit Luddite, but only inasmuch as they find un-useful. As in, watching videos online? Check. The very latest tech? Probably not.

Our Mentoring Style: The Tour Guide side of the equation.

We will share from our knowledge, our Journals, and our Journeys with the Arm-chair Travellers, but only in a casual way, which suits them just fine. They want to learn, not to enact.

    Antagonists of the Arm-chair Traveller

Their main Antagonist is Boredom. They are intelligent, curious people, who learn simply for the joy of learning. They have their things that they are interested in, and they desire to learn more about them.

For the Otakus among them, there is another Antagonist or two, relating to Fear There Will Be No More, and Fear It Will Be All the Same. As in, no more of that edition, collectable, etc., and that there will be no new stuffs, just the same-old, same-old.

    The Garden Path: Arm-chair Traveller

They will find us at a convention, see an intriguing post on Facebook, piccy on Pinterest, tweet on Twitter. They may very well also find us through our radio-show, ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’.

They will come for samples of our books. They may try out a card reading via our ‘Trade for Testimonial Thursday’ program. They will watch videos, listen to audios, and read blog-posts and sample chapters.

They will purchase material that they enjoy reading or using. For them, it’s not about changing their lives, it’s about scratching a curiosity-itch or adding to their collections.

Lots of series would be good for them. That way we can encourage them to come back!

    The In-betweeners

Realizing that these are a separate category of person, in that they will require being spoken to in a different manner, due to their different place on the Spiral.

The In-betweeners are in the unenviable position of being neither Fish nor Fowl. They are not settled in their lives, so for them, this Seeking is far more than just curiosity-itch.

They desire more, but they don’t know how to get it. They don’t entirely know how to begin the search, even.

They just know they’re not happy where they are and they desire more + better for themselves and their families.

Yes, these are the same as the Doers. These people here are at the veriest beginnings of their Journeys, while the Doers are further along.

Specific Couple: Ira & Irene In-betweener

    Backstory & Defining Moments

They are a couple that has a story to tell. For as long as they’ve been alive, they’ve had this feeling there could be something more. But they weren’t sure where to start finding out about this and Life went on, as Life does.

    Until the day it didn’t.

A close-friend died with their Dreams unrealized.

Mid-life started to loom with nothing-much-to-show-for-it.

Various Wyrd things started happening and more and more often.

And they realized they couldn’t wait any longer to find out what this ‘other’ might be.

Fortunately, praise the Lord and pass the Discovery Deck, the World had changed in the interim. People were becoming more comfortable with talking about these odd notions and strange feelings. (And sometimes stranger visitations.)

There were brave souls who even ran websites about these things.

    Prompt Pouncing ensued.

Finally, they had a place to begin.

Current Motivaytions – They desire to learn all they can as quickly as possible. They know they’ve a lot to learn and feel behind as it is. We will probably have to encourage breathing here as well as confidence that there is no such animal as Too Late.

Our Mentoring Style: Tour Guide & a Bit of the Expedition Leader

Those who are genuinely working on Change in their lives need an Expedition Leader who’s not afraid to remember where they came from and play Tour Guide a bit to get them started.

Having said that, we need to be careful to not give them too much. We are still pretty new to be reaching back that far, and it is not our strength to do so. We may need to compile a list of products and/or practitioners at that more beginning level to refer people to for that stage of their development.

    Antagonists of the In-betweeners

They have several Antagonists, many of whom live between their ears. Monsters, of the personal variety, are a huge issue for the In-betweener.

Permission. Lack of Knowledge. Lack of Self-belief. These are also huge Antagonists for the In-betweener.

They would LIKE to be more, but they don’t feel they have Permission yet.

    Permission from themselves.

    Permission from their family.

    Permission from other social groups.

    Etc.

They don’t feel they are Worthy.

They don’t feel they are Enough.

They don’t feel they know Enough.

They are willing to change this, however.

They simply need the example of What Is Possible,

and a bit of a push to get them started.

They also simply may not know where to start or what to do. Something this different may simply feel too overwhelming, too scary. Where do they start? How do they do it ‘right’? What do they need to be afraid of? What about their family/friends/tribe?

Mike pointed out a more prosaic, yet no less nasty one: Money Investment. To get good at something in the WakingWorld requires investment, often of money, but sometimes time as well. Certainly time for practice and implementation. Even the most devoted Doer may find this difficult, especially at the beginning, and the In-betweener even more so. Systems for that as well.

Another Power-full set of Antagonists of the In-Betweener: Overwhelm, and No Clue Where to Even Begin.

We must give the In-betweeners both a clear Path entrance and lots of reassurance + encouragement, as they also Fear They Are Doing It Wrong.

Knowledge is Power – help them understand that by learning about a thing, they no longer have to generically fear it.

    The Garden Path: In-betweener

They will find us at a convention, see an intriguing post on Facebook, piccy on Pinterest, tweet on Twitter. They may very well also find us through our radio-show, ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’.

They will come for sample chapters of our how-to books, tales of what’s possible and what’s happened to us from our Journeys, sample meditations, and the like. I can definitely see them participating in ‘Trade for Testimonial Thursday’, quite possibly more than once.

They will buy books, meditations, card-decks, talismans, after they’ve seen how useful they can be. So we need to demonstrate that usefulness often.

And then! On the other side of the street, we have the Doers.

Again, by definition, they are a more active bunch. They are not where they desire to be: in life, career, or both. They are the ones for whom the tagline ‘Helping you fly out of Yuck, Stuck, and 10101-ville’ was created.

They understand that change is not in an instant and they are looking for products and services that will help them get from here to there, not do it for them.

Yes, this group looks familiar. They should. They are the In-betweeners, farther down their Path. Sometimes they will have come to us in the In-betweener stage and grown along with us, sometimes they will discover us at the Doer stage.

The core thing is that they are desirous of improving their lives and their performances.

We are Expedition Leaders for these folk, boldly going, or at least honestly going, in the directions of our Dreams, and by example and sharing what has worked for us, helping our peeps to do the same.

    Antagonists of the Doer

Again, many of the Antagonists of the Doer live between their ears. Monsters are a huge concern. Doers need to learn to successfully parent their Monsters in order to move forward.

Again, well-meaning (and not-so-well-meaning) family & friends are another huge concern. We need to help them develop strategies to help them Hold their Space under stressful circumstances.

There is the larger, World-based one of a society that does not yet understand or trust psychic functioning. The Monster of Marginalization is a deadly one indeed. Not to mention the dangers if the world goes backward to an earlier, less tolerant age, such as may occur with the more extreme political or religious stances.

Mike pointed out a more prosaic, yet no less nasty one: Money Investment. To get good at something in the WakingWorld requires investment, often of money, but sometimes time as well.
